All businesses needs to be registered for Income Tax with SARS.

After you have received your registration document for your company the next step is to register your company for Income Tax with SARS.

 Follow the process below.

The company representative will need to take the documents to SARS. This is a SARS requirement.

Steps to register a new Company:

  1. Choose a possible 4 names for your company to be submitted with the application. (See name reservation)
  2. Choose the directors of your company. On application we will need certified copies of their ID documents.
  3. Complete the application form.
  4. Pay the applicable fee online or via EFT.
  5. We will e-mail you the draft documents to be signed and returned to us.
  6. We can only submit the application after the signed documents were received.
  7. The application takes around 14-21 days. (7 Days for the name reservation and 7-14 days for the company registration)

After your company has been registered, you will need to register it with SARS for income tax purposes. (Please see Tax registration Business)

When you receive your income tax number, you can register your company for all other required taxes. This includes:

  • Pay-as-you-earn (PAYE)
  • Uneployment insurance fund (UIF)
  • Skills development (SDL)
  • VAT

We can do all the above for an all inclusive Registration, for only R4550-00

What is it?

Employees’ Tax refers to the tax required to be deducted by an employer from an employee’s remuneration paid or payable. The process of deducting or withholding tax from remuneration as it is earned by an employee is commonly referred to as PAYE.

An employer who is required to register with SARS for PAYE and/or Skills Development Levy (SDL) purposes, is also required to register with SARS for the payment of Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) contributions to SARS.

Who is it for?

The amounts deducted or withheld must be paid by the employer to SARS on a monthly basis, by completing the Monthly Employer Declaration (EMP201). The EMP201 is a payment declaration in which the employer declares the total payment together with the allocations for PAYE, SDL, UIF and/or Employment Tax Incentive (ETI), if applicable. A unique Payment Reference Number (PRN) will be pre-populated on the EMP201, and will be used to link the actual payment with the relevant EMP201 payment declaration.

When do I need to Register for PAYE?

You need to register for PAYE if any of your employees will receive an income over and above the Income Tax threshold. The threshold for the 2015 tax year is R70 000 or R5 833 per month. If the owner/member draws a salary from his business then you need to register as well.

Some interesting facts regarding your business' payroll:

  1. Did you know if you are a member of a CC you need to deduct PAYE/UIF from your salary/money you draw from the business and pay over monthly.
  2. Did you know if you use a casual woker for more than 24 hours in a month you need to deduct UIF from his salary, declare and pay over to the Department of Labour.
  3. Did you know that UIF deductions from employees must be declared to the Department of Labour monthly on a seperate form, stating details of every single employee?
  4. Did you know if your total payroll amount exeeds R500 000 a year you need to pay over Skill Development Levy (SDL) to SARS?
  5. Did you know that if you use Positive Trends Financial Services as your payroll partner you don't need to know all these "tricky" laws as we will handle everything on your behalf.
